Video switching and monitoring

Pre-show live stream test checklist
Packing the right gear is half the job. Run through these checks on site, in order, before doors open:
- Power up in order. Power strips and UPS first, then switcher, cameras and computers.
- Check every source on the multiview. Every camera, laptop and graphics feed should show picture at the right resolution and frame rate.
- Match the cameras. White balance and exposure on every camera, against the same light the show will use.
- Test every mic at the desk. Talk into each one, check levels and listen for hum or dropouts on the wireless.
- Listen to the stream feed on headphones. Not the room PA. Check that audio is in sync with picture.
- Check the internet. Wired connection plugged in, upload speed tested, backup connection ready. The streaming bitrate calculator tells you how much headroom you need.
- Run a private test stream. Stream to the real platform as unlisted or private for a few minutes and watch it on a phone on mobile data.
- Start the backup recording. Record locally on the switcher, encoder or cameras in case the stream drops.
- Load the holding slide. Go live with it 10 to 15 minutes before the start time.
- Tape down every cable run in walkways, and check nothing is resting on a hot power supply.
What belongs on a live streaming checklist?
A good checklist is built from the signal flow, not from memory. Start with the diagram: every camera, every source, every output. Each connection in the diagram is a cable you need to pack, and each device needs power. Then add the things no diagram shows: tape, batteries, the right adapter for a presenter's laptop, the stream key. Turn your diagram into a packlist automatically
A static checklist goes out of date the moment your setup changes. In H2R Gear, the packlist is generated from the plan. Add a camera to the diagram and it appears on the packlist. Draw a cable and it is counted, with its length if you set one. Items are grouped into gear, cables and extras, where you add free-text items like gaffer tape and batteries that do not belong on a diagram.
While you pack, tick items off and the progress percentage shows on the plan card, so the rest of the crew can see how close the kit is to ready. Mark everything packed in one go when you are done, export the packlist as a CSV or copy it to the clipboard. The packlist is part of every H2R Gear plan, including the free Starter tier.
